The LAGBUS took off from Oshodi enroute Ebute-Ikorodu around 9pm that fateful day. The officials had informed intending passengers that the bus with registration number W015, will avoid Agric due to the perennial gridlock at both Benson and Ikorodu roundabouts.

The driver who was later identified as ‘’Holy Michael’’, only stopped at designated bus terminals for passengers to either alight or board the bus.

Despite the ongoing road construction, the bus arrived Ogolonto in less than 30 minutes. Those going to Agric were assisted to board another bus while the LAGBUS headed towards Ebute. Suddenly, a Toyota Camry which was coming behind made contact with the bus and had its side mirror broken by the LAGBUS.
This resulted into a hot exchange of words between both drivers. With none of them ready to shift grounds, they blocked the road, causing a heavy traffic jam. Commuters who were not prepared for the long wait, took the laws into their hands. With the commuters becoming restless, an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, who was on duty, pleaded with the LAGBUS driver to come down from the vehicle so that the matter would be amicably resolved. Immediately he alighted from the bus, the driver of the Toyota car and his passenger, descended on Holy Michael and beat him black and blue.

As if this was not enough, the duo reached for their car, brought out broken bottles and other dangerous objects which they freely used to hit the LAGBUS driver. They succeeded in giving him deep cuts on the head and other parts of his body. The sight of the overflowing blood attracted sympathisers, including street urchins who immediately applied jungle justice.

They attacked the Toyota Camry driver and his passenger until one of them slumped. Not satisfied, they ( mob) reached for the car and were ready to destroy it but for the timely intervention of some elders in the area.

When we left the scene around 10.30pm, the car driver was said to be in a critical condition. The incident was later lodged with the Police at Ipakodo Division where the case was incidented and the culprit kept behind the bars.

The LAGBUS driver was taken to Ikorodu General Hospital for treatment. But the nurses on duty refused to attend to him until a deposit of N5,000 is made.
