It is no news that the Oba of Ikorodu, Ayangburen Oyefusi, departed mother earth a while ago. The breaking news is that the ruling houses in Ikorodu town have selected and duly elected Prince Adewale Shotobi as the new Ayangburen of the old Ikorodu Kingdom. It had been widely speculated that the Odofin of Ikorodu, Prince Taju Odofin, a former Lagos State Commissioner, would seamlessly assume the vacant stool of his progenitors, but other members of the ruling house have opted for the new Oba-elect. The newly appointed Oba of Ikorodu Kingdom, the Adegorushen V, His Royal Highness will be coronated as the Ayangburen of the ancient city of Ikorodu on a date to be fixed as mutually agreeable to Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, government officials, kingmakers, royal families and elders of Ikorodu Town.
The announcement of the official selection was made by the Asoju-Oba designate of the Ikorodu Kingdom, Kazeem Olorunibe Ogbara. K. O; as he is popularly known, is a member of the iconic Ikorodu family of Ogbaras who include Mr Rasaq Ogbara, Hon. Gori Ogbara, ex member Lagos State House of Assembly, Ms Doyin Ogbara, Mrs Folorunso Alakija nee Ogbara, the richest woman in Nigeria and 2nd richest woman in Africa. K. O. has already requested the pleasure of the presence of his fellow club members, Chairman and Management Committee of the Island Club to grace the occasion on D-day. In the hierarchy of Lagos Obas, Ikorodu Town, albeit formerly in Western Nigeria and jocularly referred to by the real Omo Ekos (Lagosians) as “Lagos by Decree”, is second only to the seat of Oba Rilwan Akiolu at the Iduganran Palace on Lagos Island. Lagos Blog will be present to witness the coronation of the new Oba and find out his mien and the possibility of his personality matching that of the late most charismatic of Lagos Obas, Oba Oyefusi.
