Lagos – Some football lovers based in Ikorodu, Lagos State on Sunday appealed to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company to ensure constant power supply of electricity during 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

They in Lagos said that regular supply of power would further raise the excitement of Nigerians toward the football event.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup is the 20th edition of the Mundial.

The tournament will hold from June 12 to July 13 in different cities in Brazil.

Uche Okolo, an electronics salesman at Isawo/Agric Road, Lagos, told NAN that constant power outages in Ikorodu would dampen the hype about the world football competition.
“We do know that the crime rate usually drops during the World Cup because almost everybody is busy watching the matches.’’

“Our insecurity situation in the country is bound to change for the good during this football event,’’ he said.

A student of Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, John Ayomide, said that many football fans would not want to watch the matches in hotels, viewing centres or at bars.

“We will like to enjoy the matches in the comfort of our homes,’’ he said.

Another student of the polytechnic, Femi Olubiyi, said that Nigeria would do well in this edition of the FIFA World Cup.

“Our hopes are high. We will be praying for our boys to possibly win this cup.

“We will equally not want to be running from one house to another with generator because of the absence of power in our homes,’’ he said.

A banker, Ayo Akintobi, said that “everything should be in place to ensure that Nigerians do not have to spend so much to generate their own electricity.

“The authorities in charge of supply of power to Ikorodu should be alert to their duties during this event,’’ he said. (NAN)
