The Lagos State Government has warned residents of Ikorodu and motorists plying the new Ikorodu BRT route against the misuse of the road. The government said 400 new buses approved for the Ikorodu route would be deployed for operation in June and July this year.
Governor Babatunde Fashola said at a stakeholders’ forum on Wednesday that the road must be cleared of all obstacles impeding the free flow of traffic in order to enable the masses enjoy the benefit of the BRT route.
Fashola, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Alhaji Fatai Olukoga, said, “This road has been built with tax payers’ money and it must be guided jealously by the users to preserve it.”
The Managing Director, LAMATA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, advised those using the BRT median as a parking lot to vacate the area, especially at Owode Onirin, as the BRT buses would soon be plying the road.
He said LAMATA would be sending about 400 new buses to the route between June and July to boost public transportation in the area. Mobereola, who was represented by Mr. Gbenga Dairo, a director in the agency, said the people must comply with rules to make the road serve them well.
He said, “Motorists should obey all traffic signs, while hawking is prohibited in and around bus shelters and the BRT terminals.
