The 21st’ edition of Ikorodu-Oga 2012 Carnival has come and gone but its memory still lingers. The one week long carnival, which showcased the culture and tradition of Ikorodu people also provided an avenue for re-union of the people, both home and abroad. It was fun galore for Ikorodu indigenes, friends and well wishers. The event, which also witnessed honours being bestowed on deserving and worthy individuals, will continue to invoke nostalgic feelings till next edition in 2013.
The 2012 edition officially started on September 18, 2012 when the chairman, 1korodu-Oga DevelopmentAssociation (IKODASS), Alhaji Lam Afolabi Gbadamosi, mni, at a very impressive World Press Conference, announced the programmes of event for the 1korodu-Oga Carnival 2012 and sought the media assistance in the area of publicity and propagation of the IKODASS and its programmes.
At the press conftrence, Otunba Lamidi Gbadamosì announced the official laying of foundation ofN35O million IKODASS Civic Centre at Akasolori; provision of portable water at Lagos State Library, Ikorodu; donation of motorcycle to local vigilante group ‘Onyabo’; approved bursary award to 40 students; re-construction of IKODASS office with modern toilet and state-of-art facilities;financial assistant to individuals and organizations; celebration of Elders Day in Ikorodu and a catalyst of change by appealing to Lagos State government for the re-construction of Ikorodu-Lagos road, which is now under reconstruction among many giant strides of IKODASS under his leadership.
N350million IKODASS Civic Centre; N100 million Award of bursary/scholarship to indigent students; N5milion Rehabilitation of Domestic Science Centre Phase II; N10 million construction of a block of six classrooms; N15million purchase of five utility vehicles for Community Vigilante Group and N20milion purchase of five school buses as projects IKODASS will be embarking upon. At the Press Conference where the Chairman unveiled the theme of this year‘s Ikorodu-Oga Day celebration as “Community Development”, the following were announced as programme of activities for 2012: Woro Carnival Day (November 10, 2012,); Marathon Race/Oga Social Nite (November 11, 2012); Musical Fiesta (‘November 12, 2012) A Taste of Local Diet (November 13, 2012,); Youth Activity/Children Day November 14, 2012,,); Market Men & Women/ Artisan Day (November 15, 2012); Networking/Re- Union & C.D.A Day (November 16, 2012) and the Grand Finale Day (November 17, 2012).

This year’s Woro Carnival, which is usually the first activity of’ 1korodu-Oga Day’ celebration, witnessed unprecedented crowd. As early as 7.00am, the executive members of Ikorodu-Oga Development Association, led by Aihaji Lam Gbadamosi, Ikorodu indigenes and friends started trooping into the Ikorodu Town Hall,the take-off venue of the Woro. At about 9.00am, the train moved from Town hall through Olubi street into adjourning Ayangburen road. At Ojogbe junction, others joined the sea of heads. From Ojogbe junction, the procession connected Oriww road and at Ita-Elewa the procession stopped for about 20minutes. At Ita-Elewa, which is the center of Ikorodu township, it was mixture of different traditional musical groups with about 10 music mobile vehicles which also played different genres of music from traditional apala to local fùji music and western hip hop music. The Nigerian western like music also took a prominent position.
The different musics that were being played alongside the procession clearly divided the large crowd into different groupings as people queued below their choice of music, dancing and catching’ This clear division brought beauty and glamour into the carnival with over ten carnivals emerging from Woro carnival.
From Ita-Elewa junction, where local security outfit ‘Onyabo’ had hectic time in controlling traffic and crowd, the train moved along Ireshe road with the crowd now manageable as there has was a clear division of the procession into groups, which brought order and sanity and effective management of each groups by the local security outfit and the men of Nigerian Police.
At Aga junction, the procession veered into Otambala street, turning at Aiye Opare junction into Odu gate street to connect Obun Oke/Obun-A le market junction, where hundreds of people were already waiting for the procession. It was a huge congregation of people at Obun Oke/Oba –Ale junction, where another 3Ominutes were spent.
Along the procession, the chairman Otunba Lamidi Gbadamosi, kept with the tradition by closely being followed by the Igunnuko cult and observing prayers at different shrines. While the crowd waited to take rest at Obun-Ale junction and most importantly to continue the dance, themselves out, the chairman of IKODASS, with his executive members and traditional cult groups like Igunnuko,Obatala, Sango, Orisa Nia, Osun, Oso Osu, Agere, Egungun and a host of others, moved into Jaiyesinmi street where prayer were offered at Ogun (Iron) shrine to connect Ita Aro junction, where another prayer was also offered at Eru Aro (traditional symbol of Aro’s chieftaincy). moving through Aro street, the procession again connected Oriwu road and joined up with the huge crowd at Obun-Ale junction to move along Obun-Ale market to connect Ajina.
At Itun-Nia, it was another prayer session at Noomu Arere Awunre Kojepa shrine after which the chairman and his executive members with traditional cult groups and few others moved into the Lasunwon family house at Ajina. In front of the traditional Osugbo house (the highest authority in the land befòre colonial period), were elders and chieftain Of Lasunwon royalfamily led the Odofin of 1korodu, High Chief Kabiru Shotobi, who welcome Otunba Gbadamosi and his entourage into the fàmily. The signìcance Of the homage paid by the IKODASS executive and traditional cult groups, which is usually observed every year is to acknowledge the importance of the Lasunwon Royal Family,which is the direct offshoot of Oga, the progenitor and founder of Ikorodu. At the Lasunwon, another round of prayers were offered with different cult groups taking turn after IKODASS to pay their homage.
Moving away from the Lasunwon’s, it was the turn of lyalode of 1korodu, where the IKODASS executive along with the traditional cult groups also paid homage to High Chief Atinuke Benson, the lyalode of Ikorodu at her court at Ajina, before the crowd moved through Alagbe street to connect Itunmaja and veering into Aihaji street through Ladega junction to connect Ikorodu garage. At Ikorodu garage, the IKODASS Chairman led the huge crowd to move in procession round the Oga statue.
From garage, the procession moved along Oba Ayangburen the Ayangburen palace, the fInal destination of the procession. At the palace,HRM Oba(Dr) Salaudeen Afolabi A. Oyefusi, CON; Most Glamorous Queen of Our Time, Olori (Ambassador) Muyibat Oyefusi; Chiefs, Baales and other prominent members were seated to welcome the Woro procession, led by otunba Lam Gbadamosi. A very appreciative kabiyesi thanked the entire 1korodu people and Friends for the success of the Woro procession and gave royal blessings and support for Ikorodu-Oga Carnival 2012. Later in the evening all roads led back to the Ikorodu Town hail for the Oga Social Nite.
OGA SOCIAL/AWARD NITE:LASPO TECH PROS AJALOGUN,OTHERS HONOURED WITH FELLOW & ASSOCIATE AWARDS
The day-two event, Oga Social/Award Nite was chaired by Alhaji Moshood Enifeni with Alhaja Omotayo Awofala as chairperson. At the event, which was directed by Eweso were Otunba Lam Gbadamosi, Aihaji Chief Mustapha Museli, Engineer Wasiu Olokunola Chief Kola Aridegbe, Alhaji Musiliu Akinlana, Chief Abolanle Osinubi, Otunba David Ekiyoyo, Otunba Waliu (NURTW chairman), Chief Ayo Arole and Hon. Sinai O.B. Agunbiade, among other guests.
Honoured as Fellows of 1korodu Oga were Mr Kamorudeen Olanrewaju Kuye (PRO LASPO TECH), Alhaja Ayooia Rahmat. Ajalogun,Chief(Mrs.)Omowunmi Iluyemi, Mr. Adebayo Oduyebo, Mrs. Remi Grace Balogun (AKD USA, President), Dr Tajudeen Ogbara (AKD USA), Alhaji Bolaji Aregbesola (AKD USA), Aihaji Riiwan Olasunkanmi Alowonle (MOP), Prince Adebisi Olarewaju Olukoga (UK & Ireland) , Prince Ademola A lagbe (UK & Ireland),Hon Mrs Olajumoke Jimbo Ademehin and Alhaji Lateef Oyenubì. The Day 2 event actually started with a marathon race in the morning, when about ten athletes took to the street and at the end, Masters Oladipo Quani (No 112), Adeyemi Wasiu (No 113) and Aina Dare (No 203) emergedjìrst, second and third respectively Jbr the male category and Miss Olamide Oluwaseun (No. 104), Ruth John (no 115) and Rufiat Ajibade (No 022)
emerged first, second and third respectively for the female category. Ten year old Miss Nosikat Banjoko was the marathon center of attraction as she started and finished the race; thus, emerging as the youngest marathoner Ikorodu-Oga Carnival.
PAST CHAIRMEN & MUSIC/DRAMA FIESTA: MUSIC MIXED WITH EDUCATION, DRAMA AND FASHION:
The day-three of 1korodu-Oga Carnival 2012 witnessed the celebration of IKODASS past chairmen, endless music by 1korodu Performing Musician Association of Nigeria (PMAN), 1korodu chapter, drama by the Association of Theatre Art Practitioners (ANTP), lkorodu chapter, fashion parade by Nigeria Association of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists (NASHCO), exhibition by Tailoring Association and honour for NUT chairman, among others. Chief Ayo Arole (IKODASS Chairman 1996-2001), Otunba Ayodele Elesho (2003-2005) and Otunba David Ekiyoyo ( 2005-2009) joined Otunba Lam Gbadamosi, the current chairman of IKODASS to celebrate the special day earmarked for the past chairmen of the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS).
It was music galore as Ologo-Didan, Wale King, Oseni, Shigaba and Alhaji Patira and a host of other musicians gave good account of themselves on mounting the stage. But what really cut people’s attention most are the drama by ANTP and hairstyles parade by NASHCO members. The drama reminded many of the beauty of stage plays which is natural, engaging, thrilling, action packed and intense with the audience seeing the actors live on stage. The staged drama captured 1korodu township emergence, challenges over time and its development under the headship of HRM Oba (Dr) Salaudeen AfolabiA. Oyefusi, CON, GCOI, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, who is also the Paramount Ruler of Ikorodu Kingdom (Ikorodu Division), Vice Chairman, Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs and Chairman, Ikorodu Council of Obas and chiefs.
The intensity of live drama was relayed when the entire hall was thrown into serious panic with thousands of guests and audience packed in the Ikorodu Town hall ran helter-sketer at the shot of gun by an actor at war front. It took some, minutes before the audience could come terms with the reality and while still recovering from that,another shot bam’ of dane gun was released. The old woman role played by a popular home video actor also got the audience shouting for the drama continuity. This very particular act moved the guests and audience which include Otunba Adebayo Salami (0go Bello) to acknowledge the actors with new naira notes.
Different hairstyles like Gold Mask Queen, Onilu Gangan, Oleku and Olori among many others were on parade with the entire hail shouting for more. Their hairstyles were very catching and surprising as many could not believe that hands could make such designs on the contestant’s heads. At the end of the day, Contestant 3, Oleku (very tough) who proved that it was indeed very tough to be crowned a queen emerged winner. Onilu Gangan and Oloni, Contestants 2 and 8, emerged second and third respectively.
The chairman of the occasion, Otunba Adebayo Salami, popularly known and called Oga Bello,’ in his address, said he did not hesitate to chair the event when contacted because he always felt he is a bonafide citizen of Ikorodu, because he is married to an Ikorodu woman and his children also got married to Ikorodu daughters. When the entire hall showed appreciation and acknowledged his claim to Ikorodu citizenship, they roar in rejection when ‘oga Bello’ requested of them to allow him watch and participate in Eluku fèstival. Sensing that Ikorodu people does not joke with Eluku, the chairman of the occasion quickly and jokingly retreated and informed that he knows his boundary and will not even contemplate doing that.
Otunba Salami also appreciate the support and efforts of HRM and 0lor Oyefusi, IKODASS and the entire 1korodu people för the unity in ANTP, Ikorodu and for the accommodation of theatre art practitioners which has made 1korodu home. He then requested that ÍKODASS should include Film Village in its programme.

Honoured with PMAN award are Elder M.F Olayinka as SIR PMAN; Dr David O.A. Sunmoni, as FELLOW AND LOVER of indigenous music and Sir Kareem Olamide as APOSTLE OF PEACE, PMAN.
Also honoured was Comrade Lateef Oduguwa,Nigerían Union of Teachers, Ikorodu Chapter; who was honoured for his outstanding role and quality leaders/tip which he has been exhibiting in leading teachers in Ikorodu. He was honoured as Nigerian Union of Teachers Ambassador.
DAY4: TASTE OF LOAL DIET
This is a special day set aside by IKODASS fòr the taste of Local föods and drinks. At the event, which was chaired by Chief Adeshina Ayo Shode, local foods like Ikokore, Akara Egusi, Egbo, Akara Oka, Ebiripo, Asaro and Afon were on display for the enjoyment of people. Also to wash the local foods down was Sagidi and Agadagidi local drinks common with 1korodu people. Other guests at the Local Diet Day are Alhaja Muyibat Ibikunle, the chairperson of the occasion; Alhaji Lam Gbadamosi; Otunba David Ekiyoyo; Chief Kamorudeen Bombata, among others.
The event also witnessed health talk by Prince Mare Tajudeen Olusesi, Chief Consultant Sensiking Traditional Hospital, who spoke on different herbs and their uses like Moringa Olifèria (Ewe Igbale), Afomo Onisana and Egbin Epin, among others. He encouraged people to attach importance to local herbs which he said are good cures for hypertension, cancer; impotency and other ailments.
Three important personality and groups which had contributed immensely to Local food and tradition are honoured. Mrs Asanatu Taiwo Sule, who was the
first food seller in Ikorodu to use food warmer in selling fòod (rice) was honoured for her efforts and selfless service. While the Onigunnu Group of Ikorodu and Osere Obro lsele Group are both honoured with Ikorodu Cultural Heritage Awards. After their awards, both group threw the audience into traditional dances with their songs.

With a token of N200, interested guests filed out on a long queue for local foods and drinks. The importance of this day is to preserve Local fòods and drinks common with 1korodu people.
DAY 5: AJALOGUN,SALIS HONOURED AS ROLE MODELS AS DAMILOLA EMERGES MISS IKORODU 2012
The Day 5, which was the Youth/Role Model Day, started with match past by pupils from both public and private primary, junior and senior secondary schools in Ikorodu. In his welcome address at the Role Model award, Otunba Lam Gbadamosi, who expressed his profound appreciation to HRM Oba S.A.A Oyefusi, Olori Oyefusi and entire royal family, Chiefs and Baales for their supports for the IKODASS since the beginning of the celebration, also acknowledged the supports of Barrister Jimi Benson, chairman of the occasion and Role Model award winner 2011.
IKODASS chairman, who also appreciated the two Role Model awardees Pastor Fatai Ajalogun, Director of Protocol in the Lagos State Governor’s Office and Barrister Owolabi Salis, former Governorship Candidate for showing good examples for the youths.
To the children and youths, Alhaji Gbadamosi advised them to take a step at a time as journey of one million miles starts with a step and assured them that with commitment, dedication and discipline, the sky is not even their limits. is Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Salaudeen Afolabi Adekoya Oyefusi, CON, GCOI, the Ayangburen of 1korodu, in his royal speech, thanked the citizens and friends of Ikorodu for their supports over the years and contribution to the development of Ikorodu. The Kabiyesi eulogized the recipients of the role model 2012 awards and enjoined them to continue showing good examples.
The lkorodu kingdom paramount ruler, while heartily greeting the children and youths of Ikorodu, also enjoined them to be good ambassador of Ikorodu. He further prayed for them and the entire Ikorodu kingdom.
The children, which the day was earmarked for, staged beautiful cultural displays that reflect the good and greatness of 1korodu under Oba Ayangburen.
To help IKODASS achieve its set aims, especially the proposed projects, the families, guests, colleagues and friends of Pastor Fatai Ajalogun, Director of Protocol donated generously.
Olowosago/Osonaya family donated Nl 00,000; Mrs Ajalogun and children N500,000; Pastor Ajalogun Protocol staff N50, 000; among other donations. Other donations also came from Owolabi Salis Group, Alimosho, N100,000; Mr & Mrs Sanni N5,000, among others, with Barrister Salis pledging the donation of $5000 worth of computer systems to IKODASS with latest computer software to advance education.

The marching out of beauty queens for Miss Ikorodu 2012/2013 contest turned every eye in the hail. The beauty queens who appeared in native dresses, evening gowns and other attires dazzled the audience in the hail with different parades and made them yearn for more. They were also subjected to intelligent questions mainly related to 1korodu and Lagos State. At the event contestant No. 031, Miss Affeson Oluwadamilola emerged as the winner and was crowned by the Most Glamorous Queen of our Time, Olori (Amb) Muyibat Oyefusi. While Contestants No. 018 and 028, Miss Odeyemi Tomisin and Miss Sowemimo Omobowale respectively emerged as runners-up.
Other contestants include Miss Ayeni Alimot Okeowo, Aregbesola Idowu, RitaDapo, Awolesi Adetoun, Anez Abidemi, Bibiere Nwafor and Akiosi Tolulope.
DAY 6: MARKET MEN & WOMEN/ARTISAN DAY:LADEGA MARKET EMERGES MOST CLEANEST MARKET
Though, the programme as usual started hours behind schedule, party mood could be seen from early in the morning. Our reporter who went around to observe the activities of the day, which required all shops, stalls and markets to be under lock and key, discovered that there is nearly 100% level of compliance. Markets monitored were major markets like Sabo, Ladega, which has turned to Idumota in Ikorodu, Garage market and other shops .
At about 1.00pm, when the programme started, the Ayangburen palace was a Mecca of sort. Different markets, trade associations and unions and artisans had taken their seats with banners identijying one from the others. Among markets at the event were Sabo, Ajina, Obun-Ale, Laketu, Amuludun/Allison Olori, Surulere, Omolere and Ayangburen Markets, among many others. Also present were Sogidowo Plank Marketers Association, Ikorodu Division, Firewood Sellers and Suppliers Association, 1korodu Perishable Dealers and Sellers Association, Lagos State Wholesalers Yam Dealers Association, Boluyo Yam Flour and Food Stuff Association, Egbe Alata, 1korodu, Lagos State Wholesale /Retailers Yam Dealers ‘Association, Fish Hawkers A csociation, Ikorodu Division, Ram, Cow and Goat Dealers Association, Ebu Oso Market Association, Ikorodu Grinders Association and Asejere Fowl Sellers Association. Also are the Nigerian Union of Tailors and National Association of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists (NASHCO).
The event was a carnival of sort as the associations, markets and bodies were not just sitting in groups, but with enough food and drinks available to eat and there was also display of föod stujft and goods at the Ayangburen palace.
Day 50 0f the Ikorodu-Oga Carnival 2012 turned out to be one of the most spectacular day/event of the week-long activities. The day brought to fore the combination of Oju-Ode Oba carnival in Ijebu-Ode and Durba Carnival in Kano. It was a scene to behold with the spectacular displays and performances of cows, rams and horses. The ram locking horn reminded the guests of popular Lagos Island Ram Championship where the high and low register their rams för contest. This particular event (ram fight) caught not only the attention of HRM Oba Oyefusi and his Olori, but also the entire guests sitting in the pavilion. In her short welcome address, Alhaja Taofikat Abeni Allison, the Iya Oloja General of 1ko rodu Division, requested HRM Oba Oyefusi, the 1korodu Local
Government and IKODASS to help provide a good location for a new market to prevent street trading and the enfòrcement of a strict rule that will make Hausa yam and pepper sellers that come from Mile 12 to sell their goods inside the market instead of hawking along the street.

The Iya-Oloja General of Nigeria, Alhaja Abibat Mogaji, also sent her goodwill message to HRM Oba Oyefusi, IKODASS, market men and women and entire Ikorodu people on the celebration of Ikorodu Oga Carnival20l2.
After the displays, each market and association took their turns to pay homage to the king and royal family with each bringing produce and goods to show signs of bountiful harvest. Following immediately after the ram fight was a cow display by the Hausa community who were also on hand to pay homage to the royal family. A very big and violent cow was managed by the handlers to evolve another spectacular performance. At 3.34pm, after homages had been completed, Olori Muyibat Oyefusi had a swell time as she took to the dancing floor with the Iya Oloja and other senior market officers, dancing to good numbers from Aihaji Moshood Atunwon.
Although, HRM Oba Oyefusi did not get on his fret to dance, it was obvious to everyone present that kabiyesi was enjoying himself on his seat, raising his horse weep and moving to the rhythm of Atunwon‘s apala rendition.

DAY 7: NETWORKING/RE-UNION DAY BROUGHT CIVIL SERVANTS AT THE COUNCIL, STATE AND FEDERAL LEVELS TOGETHER.
The day was specifically dedicated for civil servants of Ikorodu extraction at the council,state and federal levels. It was a re-union and networking day and the fourth Public Gbadamosi;, Mr Segun Ogunlewe, HOS, Lagos State and the occasion chairman; Mrs Omolara Erogbogbo, P.S. The Planning Committee Chairman, Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo, in his welcome address, said Ikorodu-Oga Day since emergence, has gone through progressive redefinition to evolve an all-encompassing forum where political gladiators, prominent industrialists, players in the corporate world as well as other indigenes of Ikorodu extraction in rank and file of the State Civil/Local Government and Teaching Services have been provided with a platform for social interaction.
He challenged the guests and co-public servants that the challenge before Ikorodu should be seen as onerous so that collectively, the people can achieve it together and evolve a sense of brotherhood among the Ikorodu people.
Chairman of the occasion, Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, in his goodwill message, said the occasion provides the needed platform for both retired and active public servants to share in the aspiration of and contribute to the development of our commonwealth called Ikorodu Division.
As the head of civil service in the state, the chairman did not forget to remind the public servants that there is need for them to comport themselves in manner of excellence and accountability and not turn their pride of place in service which call for selflessness to that of self aggrandizement.

In her short paper titled "How it Begins", Mrs Kehinde Okeowo, the coordinator of the Planning Committee, said, "The need for the Public Servants' participation in IKODASS activities is premised on the need to harness the potentials of active and retired Public Servants in their robust contributions in all ramifications to the overall development of the Division in general".
Awards of Excellence in Civil Service were presented to Alhaji Lookman Adeola Andu, Mr E.A Awolaru, Mrs O.O. Atunrase, Mr Adegboyega Odofin, Mrs A.O. Shekan-Olaosegba, Alhaji Abdul Jelili Olohunloba Abubakir, Mr A.T. Afuwape and Mrs Anatallah A. Aregbesola.

Joining HRM Oba (Dr) Salaudeen A. He added that from available records, the successive IKODASS leadership initiated and completed laudable project.
The chairman listed projects such as beautification of Ayangburen palace (fencing), establishment of IKODASS Education Foundation which awards bursary every year, provision of borehole at Ikorodu General hospital, donation of wheel chairs to Family Support Programme Centre for disables, annual visit to Ikorodu General Hospital and Rehabilitation centre at Majidun and rehabilitation of Home Economics Centre, among many other projects initiated and completed by IKODASS.

The IKODASS chairman, building on the laudable projects which the body has initiated and completed, solicited and appealed to the sons and daughters of Ikorodu and numerous guests, friends and well wishers to help donate generously towards other projects intiated by IKODASS which include construction of Ikorodu Civic Centre at the cost of N350million, Trust Fund for Scholarships for indigent students put at N100million, Rehabilitation of Domestic Science Centre Phase II at N5million, Construction of a Block of 6 Classrooms at N10million, Purchase of 5 Utility vehicles for Community Vigilante Group at N15million and Purchase of School Buses at N20million.
The event was also attended by different cultural and political groups such as Igbo General Assembly, BOG & Friends (Babatunde Gbadamosi Group), Abike Dabiri-Erewa Marvellous Women, Sen. Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon Group, Anipole Babes, Eleboje Obojeti of Ikorodu led by Iya Kalokalo, Sen. Gbenga Ashafa Group and Olukoga Babes.
Speaking, Senator Ganiyu Olarewaju Solomon, who was the chairman of the occasion, assured IKODASS of his supports towards the completion of its numerous projects which are very laudable. He donated N1million and picked two of the listed projects by IKODASS – rehabilitation of Home Economic Centre Phase II and construction of 6 Blocks of classrooms which he pledged to construct and deliver within a short time.
The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Olugbenga Bareehu Ashafa, appealed to the people of Ikorodu for their understanding and assured them that the town is always on his mind. He donated N500,000 towards the IKODASS projects and another N500,000 for the IKODASS Education Trust Fund.
The high point of the event was the donation session involving Mr. Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi (BOG), former governorship aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and son of late Chief S.O. Gbadamosi, business mongul and Action Group and Unity Party of Nigeria chieftain. He made a donation of N3.5 million altogether for himself and on behalf of his family. N1 million each was donated for civic centre, scholarship and general donation, while he made half a million personal donation towards the civic centre.
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa also made a donation of N1.5 million.
The occasion also serves as an avenue for the Governor to roll out his government developmental projects in Ikorodu, like the on-going construction of the new Ayangburen palace, numerous roads under construction and countless others . The governor, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government also assured the good people of Ikorodu that his government is committed to the completion of the on-going projects, especially road construction.
Mrs Oluranti, who was also at the occasion in her own personal capacity, appreciated what she termed as 'Fashola treatment' the royal family and generality of Ikorodu people accorded her and promised generous donations from both the state government and from her personal purse.
The occasion also provided on opportunity for IKODASS to bestow on seven important personalities, the newly created category of award- 'Officer of the Order of Ikorodu-Oga', one of the highest category of honour by IKODASS. Prince Bode Ogunleye, Alhaja Ramota A.O. Odubeko, Chief Monzor Kolawole Olowosago (the Baroyin of Ikorodu and publisher of Oriwu Sun), Alhaji (Chief) Ganiyu A. Wahab (the Majeobaje of IKODASS), Prince Ganny Awobajo (the Agba-Akin of Odo-Nla) and publisher, Ikorodu News, Mrs Silifat Akerele and Mr Ganny K. Akerele. They were honoured with one of the highest category of award for being part of pioneering members of the committee that organized the first-ever Ikorodu-Oga Day Celebration and their contributions to the development of Ikorodu.
Honourable Adetokunbo M. Abiru, Commissioner for Finance, Lagos State, who has contributed to the success of IKODASS and development of Ikorodu, was also honoured with the distinguished merit award.
