A minor scuffle between two junior secondary school students
of Ikorodu Grammar School has suddenly turned awry, when an SS3 student of the
same school intervened on the side of his junior brother; thus, hitting the
other student with an object suspected to be charmed ring.
The incident, which happened last month in Ikorodu, according to Ikorodu News, was unleashed by a sixteen (16) year-old Quam Ijoba of 24, Oluwakemi street, Ikorodu. He was said to have brought out the charmed ring and hit Farouq Shonaike, fourteen (14) years, while trying to intervene on the side of his junior brother, who was engaged in a scuffle with the victim on Thursday February 6, 2014 during school hours.
But a source within the school, who does not want his name in print, told Oriwu Sun that the scuffle actually happened outside the school compound. In his words: "The fighting among the three students actually happened outside the school compound, around Ota-Ona junction and not within the school compound as some are saying.
Such an act can never happened under the current principal, who is known for his disciplinary stance. The school, under him, has drastically changed because of the personality of the principal. Rather than blaming the school, the parents, whose conducts, their wards are copying, should be held responsible," he said.
Ikorodu News also gathered that, Farouq, who resides at No.20, Sholafun street, Anibaba, Ikorodu, did not reveal this to his parents, who had been applying medical treatment to his condition until it got worse to the extent that he was losing weight, having severe pains and unable to eat.
Farouq was said to have revealed to his parents on Monday February 10, 2014 that he had a scuffle with his colleague during a football game at break time in the school, when his colleague's elder brother, Quam, intervened on the side of his brother and hit him with a 'juju' ring he brought out from his pocket.
While the search for the culprit began, Farouq Shonaike's family was thrown into serious panic as they made frantic efforts to get traditional medicine to tackle the effects of the spiritual ring, which has clearly made him a ghost of himself.
On the following Wednesday, when Quam's parents could not provide him as demanded by the victim's family, his brothers, who had investigated and found out their house, stormed the place to arrest the suspect. On hearing that some people were looking for him, he attempted to run away through the backyard but he was overpowered and apprehended by the angry brothers of Farouq.
In a chat with the suspect, he told Ikorodu News that he took the charm from his father's place, when he went to Lagos Island on holidays.
According to him, "I took the charmed ring from my unsuspecting father, when I went to his place on holiday. I did not even know that it will result to this, when he was beating my brother. I just wanted quick resolution and settlement of the whole thing," said a remorseful Quam.
The victim's mother was seen pleading with Quam to tell her the truth about the ring and where he got it from. But he insisted that it was taken from his unsuspecting father. The ring has since been recovered from him.
The prompt intervention of the local security outfit 'Onyabo' also prevented the breakdown of law and order as tension has risen, with the family of the victim spoiling for war.
