Commotion, reigning of curses and sympathy were the order of
the day recently at Ikorodu garage, when a day old baby was discovered dead in
a nylon bag.
The incident, which happened in front of one of the shopping complexes located opposite Unity Bank, very close to Glo office, attracted a mammoth crowd of sympathizers, who sympathized and reigned curses upon the devilish mother, who carried out this act.
The baby, a female, was said to have been found dead, with a black polythene bag laid beside her while her, entire body was wrapped in a lace cloth material. A small black nylon was also put behind her, which housed her placenta.
When Ikorodu News got to the scene, a crowd of sympathizers had already taken centre stage, pitying, cursing and reigning abuses on the wicked mother of the baby. According to them, the perpetrator had committed a grievous sin, which is beyond pardon by God and which they prayed would not get forgiveness.
Ikorodu News later gathered from a source, who did not want her name on print, that the baby was covered with a lace cloth, put in a polythene bag and dumped at the place. She said that the perpetrator was able to carry out the evil act because the day was a Thursday, which is environmental sanitation day – the day shop-owners and other traders in the area do not resume early.
According to her, it was a certain woman that heard the baby's cry around 7:30am. And conducted a search but before she could get to her, she was already dead. She said that alarm was raised immediately on discovering her but she could not be revived. She said also that a call was made to the state emergency toll free line number 767 with them promising to come and remove the remains but never showed up.
Ikorodu News also gathered from the sympathizers that the perpetrator could be one of the prostitutes around or that she could be a daughter of a useless and wayward lady, who feels that she is not ready to take responsibility for her action now.
When 767 was later called again, the respondent revealed that necessary agencies around the area had been alerted. But for almost an hour that this reporter waited to see the remains of the baby taken away, no one had come to help the situation.
