The Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered an investigation into a case of unlawful possession of fire arms and threat to life made against a group of suspected hoodlums in Bayeku town, Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Alhaji Abubakar gave the order following a complaint by landlords and residents of Bayeku area against a group of people branded as land speculators, who have continued to make life unbearable for the residents of the area with constant invasion of the area with hardened criminals brandishing guns, cutlasses and shooting sporadically into the air each time they invaded the area.
A resident who commented on grounds of anonymity, said: “This people have no regards for life or rule of law, they have perpetrated all manners of brigandage on the community even in broad daylight. We are calling on police authorities to come to our rescue.”
Meanwhile, a lawyer in the area, Mr. Lekan Daramola, in a petition to the IG on behalf of the landlords, residents and the family of Aberija of Morekete, Bayeku area of Ikorodu, identified six of the suspected hoodlums, who he said had been arrested on various occasion by the police, but left off the hook on the intervention of one “Jendo.”
