60-year-old woman, Adegunwa Adejoke, was on Monday sentenced to 
six-month imprisonment for breaking a shop with the intent to steal, an 
Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State ruled on Monday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Adejoke,
 a resident of Agbowa Ikosi in Ikorodu area, had pleaded guilty to the 
three-count charge of conspiracy, housebreaking and burglary brought 
against her.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The magistrate, Mrs. A.B. Olagbegi Adelabu, who gave 
the verdict, sentenced the woman to six months each on the three counts,
 totaling 18 months.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She, however, said the sentences would run concurrently.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She said: “Having made a confessional statement, the convict said she was lured into the act by some people who fled the scene.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Meanwhile, nothing was stolen from the shop, but Adejoke was caught with a stone which she used to burgle the shop.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
“In view of this, not minding the situation, the court has to protect the interest of the state.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“You are hereby sentenced to six months’ imprisonment on each of the counts which will run consecutively.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“This will teach you a lesson and I hope when you leave the prison, you would have turned a new leaf.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Earlier,
 Police prosecutor, Mary Ajiteru, told the court that the accused, with 
others still at large, were caught on June 29 at 9pm breaking into a 
shop belonging to Mr. Oladehinde Agbomeji, at Maiyegun Bus Stop in 
Agbowa-Ikosi, Ikorodu.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The accused was caught by a security man, while others fled.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“She was taken to the palace of the traditional ruler, but the chief directed that she should be taken to the police station.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The offences contravened sections 305, 308 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.</div>

A joint security task force yesterday raided four flashpoints in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State and arrested 133 suspects for their alleged involvement in cultism, especially Badoo gang, the notorious ritual group.  </div>

The taskforce, comprised operatives of the Lagos State Police 
Command, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), the Department of State 
Services (DSS), Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency (LNSA), O’dua 
Peoples Congress (OPC), local security called Onyabo and local vigilance
 groups.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, DCP Edgal 
Imohimi; RRS Commander, ACP Olatunji Disu and the LNSA Chairman, Mr. 
Isreal Ajao, a retired Deputy Inspector of Police, the task force set 
out to curb the increasing Badoo menace and other cult-related 
activities.</div>

The raid saw the task force comb blackspots and flashpoints at 
Bayekun, Ikorodu main town, Igbogbo and Majidun, popularly known as 
hideouts for cultists and Badoo members.</div>

As at 4p.m. yesterday, the suspects had been moved to the Oshodi headquarters of the Lagos State task force for screening.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When contacted, RRS Commander, ACP Disu said they went on a raid of 
all cult known areas. “After combing several criminal hideouts in 
Ikorodu and its suburbs, scores of suspects were nabbed. Those arrested 
will be screened. Arrests were based on intelligence and in conjunction 
with local vigilantes.</div>

“The first step is to screen all suspects and that is already being 
done at the task force office. All those found wanting will be charged 
to court while the innocent will be released.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed the arrests.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The raid, which was in continuation of the clamp down on suspected 
Badoo members, came on the heels of 87 suspects arrested last week by 
the task force.</div>

 rate at which people are being wrongly accused and molested in this 
Ikorodu is becoming pathetic. One can’t even walk peacefully at anything
 past 7pm. I got back from work at around 5:21pm, after putting off my 
wears, I decided to take a nap on my bed. Suddenly I felt into a deep 
sleep only to wake up at about 7:39pm. Immediately i became conscious to
 the fact that I don’t have water in my gallon.<br />
Then I quickly decided to go get some water at a nearby tank. I was with
 my hands free on, i was just hearing “hey hey! what are you coming here
 to do at this time”?, I replied the questionnaire; “sorry sir, i am 
actually here to fetch some water”. Before i could finish explaining 
myself, I saw a very furious man and decided to just turn back ‘jejely’ 
to my house. Before i could take three steps forward, I just felt a big 
and several bang on my face through the back. At this point I was lost, 
wondering if the world is ending today. Immediately i saw people 
gathered, asking in Yoruba; “ki lo de, ki lo sele (what happened, whats 
going on)”? To cut the long story short, people attested that they know 
me, even asking the said BABA, don’t you know him? They all apologized 
after several slaps and molestation initially, then I just jejely 
carried my gallon that someone else has helped filled. Obviously out of 
pity then walked towards my house, entered my room, put off my already 
tattered cloth, sat down and started imagining what just happened, 
hoping it was just a dream, behold! it wasn’t, it was REAL ‘mehn’!. Some
 minutes later while i was still busy pondering on what just happened, I
 heard some elderly voices at my entrance, they knocked and i saw four 
elderly men (obviously the landlords of the area) alongside the man that
 ignorantly dealt with me and one of my neighbours (making six men). 
They all said they were sorry for the ugly incident, with the man that 
punished me particularly holding me tight just to show his level of 
SORRY state, i almost shed tears😢 at that point, but had to be a man. I
 told them they should just take things easy, that two wrongs can never 
make a RIGHT. That i am ok now. But trust me the beating was not here 
ooo. Come and see slaps! Do i blame them? No! But people should apply 
wisdom. That was how one of our friends too was lynched to death last 
Sunday at Odongunyan but glory be to G** mine was not beyond control.</blockquote>

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has assured residents that 
the government would curtail the activities of the notorious cult group 
known as ‘Badoo’ in the Ikorodu axis of the state.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ambode, gave the assurance at the commissioning of a rehabilitated 
fire service station in Epe and also promised to ensure the safe return 
of students kidnapped some weeks ago.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ambode said that he did not believe that the Badoo members were spirits, who could disappear.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I am deeply concerned about the issue of kidnapping in the state and
 also the recent development that has been happening in Ikorodu about 
mob action, as well as that of Badoo.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

“I just want to assure residents that we are doing everything 
possible. We don’t run the government on the pages of the newspapers, 
and that is why you see that we do not make comments in the 
newspapers,’’ Ambode said.</div>

He, therefore, charged traditional rulers, especially those in 
Ikorodu, to wake up from their slumber by helping the government to nip 
in the bud, the rising wave of kidnappings and the menace of Badoo.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ambode said it had come to the point that traditional rulers in the 
state must come together and speak to the Baales in Ikorodu to solve the
 problem of kidnapping.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to the governor, intelligence reports had it that some of 
the Baales colluded with kidnappers to kidnap people in remote areas.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“We have intelligence here that some of these things are coming from 
within and our Kabiyesis and Obas need to do something as quickly as 
possible to arrest the decadence.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“As far as the Badoo case is concerned, I do not believe that it has anything to do with a disappearing ghost.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I don’t also believe that the rituals can be taking place, without some people not being behind it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“So, I challenge all our Kabiyesis, traditional rulers and Baales; we
 must arrest this situation as quickly as possible,’’ Ambode said.</div>

The Lagos State Police command, in the early hours of Tuesday, warned
 residents of Ikorodu and its environs to always have a means of 
identification with them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The warning comes after about two persons were burnt to death over suspicion that they belonged to the notorious cult group Badoo, responsible for killings and rape cases in the area.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In
 a statement posted on the Lagos Police Command’s Instagram page 
(policenglagos) by Police PRO, Olarinde Famous-Cole, the Police said it 
was planning a series of police operations in the area.</div>

The Lagos state police command would like to inform members of the 
public especially residents in ikorodu and environs,that from henceforth
 everybody moving around that part of the state, residents, students or 
workers should always have on them a valid form of identification.

This has become important and necessary because of the series of police 
operations lined up in the area by the Lagos state police command led by
 the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations.

The Lagos state police command is deeply concerned about the criminal 
activities in the area which is not only unlawful but also affecting the
 integrity of the state.

The planned police operations demands residents to carry on them a valid
 form of identification which will be verified, in order not to be 
restricted or face apprehension as adequate security arrangements have 
been put in place for the safety of every Nigerian throughout the state 
by the police and other security agencies.

This order takes immediate effect from the 4th of July 2017.
